Boom Bust

Shirts Off Our Backs III

Shirts Off Our Backs III (2010)

This painting Shirts off Our Backs III (oil, 45x45cm) was submitted to the 2011 Beara Arts Festival. The theme is familiar to many of my works that predicted the bust and warned about the boom. This painting is a commentary on our obsession with houses and owning them. – Only it is getting more and more difficult in contemporary Ireland to hold on to a house!
Must we literally give the shirts off our backs to the banks to hold on to a house?  We have visions of dream houses. Today’s reality is that our houses are half finished, partially renovated, without roofs… and the rain is coming.
(The painting is now on display at Cleo’s.)
